Spring Season 2025

We plan to start our Spring Season on Monday, April 14.   Spring season is typically marked by beginning the transition to rowing outdoors. Depending on water and weather conditions, we may still need to train indoors on some days.

The regatta schedule  begins in early May with sprint style racing on courses of 1,200-2,000 meters in length. Racing is conducted in heats, with competitors starting side-by-side racing to cross the finish line first. Spring season runs through early June.

Practice Locations

The Erie Canal is not officially open until May 15 although once they start to fill it, there can be enough water for us to start practicing sometime before that.  Until then we will be practicing on the Genesee River.

Please note: We will monitor conditions on the river daily, if the conditions are poor, we will communicate to rowers that we are practicing indoors at the FCC Fitness Center.  This will be a last-minute notice.

FCC Boathouse

Once the Erie canal is has enough water, our practices will be held at our Boathouse on the Erie Canal in Perinton Park.

Genesee River

***Tentative***
Where: Genesee Waterways Center off Elmwood Ave (149 Elmwood Ave) behind the ice arena. See Locations & Directions for a map.
Drop off: Dropping off in the traffic circle in front of the boathouses is OK.
Pickup: You must park and get your rower. If you wait in the traffic circle you will create a traffic jam and others won’t be able to leave.

We will rowing from GWC through at least our first two races. As soon as we have water in Fairportwe will return to our Boathouse.

FCC Fitness Center

When conditions on the Genesee River are poor, workouts may be held at the Fitness Center. These workouts include erging, circuits, weight training, and more.

Parent Volunteering

Parents, the club won’t run with out you! The club is run and maintained by volunteers. We need help daily and particularly during our on-the water competitive seasons. Please monitor your email and this website for information on sign-up opportunities. Below are descriptions of our seasonal volunteer needs. More details can be found on the Volunteer page.

  • All parents are expected to sign up for one spring season “Job”: General Volunteer Descriptions.
  • All families are expected to assist with Path Patrol Duties.
  • Each regatta will have its own sign up sheet for volunteer needs. At a minimum families need to assist with at least one regatta a season.

Safety Procedures and Practice Notes

  • Please contact your coach in advance if you will be missing practice for any reason.
  • Always wear or bring sneakers
  • Always have socks
  • Do not wear loose clothing that can get stuck in seat slides.
  • Have layers ready for cooler temps (you may start off in a tank top and need another layer as the sun goes down and the temps cool off)
  • If rain is forecast, bring rain gear
  • IT IS ATHLETE’S RESPONSIBILITY TO BE PREPARED FOR VARIABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS

Attendance

Crew practice is not optional; athletes are expected to be at all practices except if there is an illness, a school activity or religious reason.  Too much homework is not a legitimate excuse; athletes must manage their time wisely.  Please notify your coaches as far in advance as possible if you must miss a practice
